For five days, a total of 60 experts, 16 of whom are from the Island, will present their work on the eastern islands from a historical, geographical, artistic, linguistic, literary, prehistoric and archaeological perspective. Once these works have been presented by the authors, the talks will be collected in a common document that will be made public within approximately a year and a half. The process is delayed in time because "a great exercise of correction has to be done," explained the general secretary Félix Martín.

Importance

The celebration of this meeting is of great importance. This is because the different presentations have been published since the beginning of the project in 1984. Thanks to this plan, there is an important documentary base on both islands.

"Traditionally these two islands have been marginalized and only brief references were made in other studies, hence the need to delve into the past to understand our present," explained the Minister of Culture of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Antonio García, at the presentation of this year's conference.

The project has two objectives. The first is to identify humanistic studies and the second is to create a forum for debate around Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. To this end, the call was presented to the Cabildos of both islands and to the Canary Islands researchers who from the first moment were involved with this initiative.

A table of conclusions at the end of each day

For his part, the Minister of Culture of the First Institution of Lanzarote, Miguel González, explained that these conferences are an important vehicle of information as well as an excellent mechanism of understanding.

It should be noted that there are some areas that are treated less than others. This is the case of toponymic studies in the case of Lanzarote. For this reason, at the end of each day a table of conclusions is held in which an attempt is made to compensate for this problem.
