The secretary of the PSOE in Arrecife did acknowledge that it was necessary to reflect on the process of electing the candidate for Mayor of Arrecife and believes that this aspect should be addressed in the next party congress. According to him, this Thursday's assembly was one of the two assemblies held each year within the party, and the main topic of the session was the assessment of the work carried out by the socialist councilors in the Arrecife City Council. The assembly considered that the work carried out by their party colleagues in the City Council "has been positive."
Almost a month after Enrique Pérez Parrilla was designated by the regional executive of the PSOE as candidate for mayor of Arrecife, the Assembly of party members in the capital met. The call had generated expectation because it was expected that the main topic would be the analysis of the designation of the candidate for mayor, although according to Miguel Ángel Leal, secretary of the socialists of Arrecife, that topic was not even on the agenda. The meeting of the Arrecife members had a first call the week after the designation of Pérez Parrilla, but it was finally suspended.
The decision of the regional executive did not conform to the proposals made by the local executive. Faced with Manuela Armas, whose name was being strongly considered to aspire to the Arrecife City Council and was the proposal of the regional executive, the Arrecife socialists proposed the names of Nuria Cabrera, Emilia Osuna, and Carmelo García Déniz, the latter being a candidate with a lot of support within the party and difficult to reject by the regional executive, or at least, that is what the local executive thought. Finally, the regional executive opted for the "old guard" of the PSOE and appointed Enrique Pérez Parrilla, and from the Local Assembly they now assure that they will give him their support.
