The PSOE accuses Betancort of using the concept of "sustainability" while refusing to limit growth

"We want him to show his face and explain if he plans to heed what the citizens are asking for or if he is going to continue refusing to act," said the spokesperson for the Socialist Group, Ariagona González.

The Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote has requested the appearance of Oswaldo Betancort in the plenary session to be held on the morning of this Tuesday, after the massive mobilizations of last Sunday, May 18 on all the islands, under the slogan "Canary Islands has a limit." Only in Lanzarote, thousands of people took to the streets to demand measures against tourist saturation, the housing emergency and the collapse of public services.

“We want him to show his face and explain if he plans to heed what the citizens are asking for or if he is going to continue refusing to act”, said the spokesperson for the Socialist Group, Ariagona González, who recalled that in this same week "Betancort has voted again against the ecotax."

“Oswaldo Betancort uses the word sustainability constantly to adorn his management and while he has rejected the tourist tax twice, he has rejected a moratorium on new tourist beds and has refused to establish a cap on the price of rent in stressed areas”, adds González.

“What happened on 18M was not an isolated event. It was a massive cry to stop an unsustainable model that threatens to expel people from their land. But while the citizens are mobilizing, Betancort acts as if nothing is happening here”, González pointed out.

For the PSOE, the appearance is essential for the president of the Cabildo to "clearly define what measures he plans to adopt in the face of a critical situation that demands urgent and courageous responses."

“He must make it clear whether he is with the people or whether he continues to govern for the interests of a system that has taken us to the limit”, concluded the socialist spokesperson.
