Components of the Civil Guard's Investigation Area assigned to the Main Post of Tías (Las Palmas) proceeded to the arrest of two people of Romanian nationality for four counts of theft and four counts of bank fraud, estimating that they could have stolen a total of items valued at 2.000 euros approximately, and that the amounts defrauded through fraudulent operations carried out with the stolen cards would reach a total of about 8.000 euros.
The actions were carried out within the framework of the "Minuto" investigation after numerous thefts and bank scams that had been occurring in recent months, specifically since the beginning of February 2026, in which the alleged perpetrators committed the thefts using the "Dosista" method (classic teamwork technique in which at least two thieves collaborate to rob their victims).
The victims, who were mainly foreign tourists of very advanced age, from whom, at the slightest carelessness, and in an agile and above all quick manner, they stole effects from inside their wallets or bags without them noticing.
However, what is striking about these events is that after the thefts, and almost immediately, charges were made in foreign businesses, the perpetrators using the cards stolen from the victims, presumably doing so through some contact who would receive the bank card numbers and CVV codes, through which, they proceeded to carry out as many operations as the bank allowed for amounts that reached more than 1,000 euros in a single operation.
Upon carrying out the study of this operation by the members of the Investigation Area, several criminal acts that followed the same pattern of action were detected, occurring in the demarcation of Puerto del Carmen. The perpetrators committed their acts in crowded areas or in the vicinity of bars or restaurants.
In addition, they had several logistical elements such as rental vehicles, which they used to move around in the commission of the different acts throughout the demarcation. It was also noted that during their stay on the island, they frequently carried out, changes of vacation address to hinder police work and their identification. However, after the intense investigation efforts carried out, they resulted in the identification of the perpetrators.
For such facts, the corresponding service is arranged for their location and detention, resulting in the location of the vehicle used by the alleged perpetrators when they were ready to act again, for which, their detention was proceeded with, remaining the next day at the disposal of the Court. By the Armed Institute, it is reported that, the investigation remains open and new arrests are not ruled out.
