The Popular Party has presented a motion urging the Arrecife City Council to build four underground public parking lots on the outskirts of the capital's center. Specifically, the popular ones ask to build large parking lots in the areas of Puerto Naos, Garavilla, in the vicinity of the Titerroy Health Center and the courts, as well as in the vicinity of the Cabildo.
"Our party intends for Arrecife to be a city for people and not just for cars, therefore, we understand that the City Council must take care to make Arrecife a city where you can walk, while reducing the pollution generated by traffic", explained Cándido Reguera, PP spokesperson in the City Council.
According to Reguera, "it is very important to promote the use of public and collective transport, continue with the policy of expanding the width of the sidewalks and start a plan to promote the construction of dissuasive parking lots". Some initiatives that "will allow to reduce traffic jams in certain areas and will facilitate the mobility of people and vehicles through Arrecife, with greater comfort and fluidity".
In its motion, which will be debated in the next Plenary Session of the Corporation, the Popular Party proposes that the four new underground parking lots be built by private initiative, through administrative concessions for 50 years. In this way, says Cándido Reguera, "this service can be offered to residents and visitors, without costing the City Council money".
The popular councilor also advocates creating incentives to lower parking prices for residents in the city center.
