The Popular Party in the Canary Islands has lashed out at the socialist spokesperson in the Arrecife City Council, Cristina Duque, for calling the mayor Yonathan de León (PP) "captain pescanova".
During a plenary session held last Monday, May 5, and while a motion from the PSOE of Arrecife was being debated that promoted creating bio-corners with water collection systems in the capital, the councilwoman addressed de León in such terms.
The Canarian PP has questioned on social networks: "What do the socialists of the Canary Islands think? Is this the level?". In a publication shared on social networks, the populars have accused the socialist councilwoman of worrying "more about insulting in the plenary sessions than in providing solutions for the residents of Arrecife."
This dispute between both political groups arises after the floods of April 12 in the capital of Lanzarote, which left streets flooded, houses flooded and sewers with sewage that overflowed and mixed with rainwater.
"I would appreciate it if you would keep the disrespect for outside this plenary," de León stressed during the plenary.
