The application of the new schedules and split shifts in four Tourist Centers means that more than 20 existing jobs are surplus, according to the company's management. For the moment, the workers of Jameos del Agua and the Castle of San José had received notification of the change of schedule from August 15, but 18 employees did not even receive the letter, so they do not know what will happen to their position. So far, only two of those 18 workers have been relocated to other centers.

In addition, and although so far only the modifications in Jameos del Agua and the Castle of San José had been notified, the works council was informed this Thursday of the application of the same in the Mirador del Río and the Cactus Garden. And with those changes, according to the company, another eight jobs would be surplus in those two centers. According to the Works Council, they now have 45 regulatory days to respond with a counteroffer that allows them to negotiate the situation of those employees.

"What worries us most and keeps us in tension are the colleagues who have not received letters, who do not know what the future holds," said Miguel González, president of the Works Council of the Tourist Centers. According to González, this absence makes a dismissal understood. However, the personnel manager of the Tourist Centers, Pedro Fraile, has assured that his first intention was to pre-retire them, but that, for the moment, the committee has not agreed, so other measures will be sought.

Fraile insists that other alternative measures will be tried and attempts will be made to relocate the affected workers to other centers, but if no agreement is reached, dismissal would be unavoidable.

The Tourist Centers currently have a debt of 14 million euros, so the management team has tried to establish measures that meet expectations of profitability that manage to remedy the debt. Last June, in a joint meeting of the management team and the union, the pre-retirement of a number of workers was proposed to the workers, a proposal to which the committee has not responded, according to Fraile.

For his part, Gonzalez points out that, at no time, was a list specified as to exactly which workers would be pre-retired.

For the moment, there is no meeting scheduled before August 15, and the workers hope that there will be some notification from the management team.
