The Teguise City Council began a new phase of the Traffic Plan in Costa Teguise last March with the installation of lighting poles at the pedestrian crossings on the main avenues of the tourist-residential town, which are being connected and switched on these days.

In total, there are 100 new light points that use low-consumption LED technology, whose first solar lamps have been installed on La Folía street, which houses essential services such as the local medical office, in addition to the Costa Teguise institute and a commercial area at the intersection with Las Palmeras avenue.

The mayor of Teguise visited the area, where municipal workers were finishing installing the lights that will improve safety at the crosswalks on this road and also on the main dual carriageways of Costa Teguise and wherever the most critical intersections are located.

“Teguise has included this project as a priority in the Island Works Plan financed by the Cabildo, whose item is intended to improve visibility problems and reduce the risk of run-overs, doubling the light points at the pedestrian crossings, and with this, -in addition to the renovation of horizontal and vertical signage that indicates the speed limit-, to reduce the number of incidents and avoid misfortunes, as well as continuing to bet on energy efficiency”, said the first mayor, Oswaldo Betancort.

Betancort assured that “there is a lot of public investment to materialize this year and the years to come in Costa Teguise and that the commitments acquired with the residents of the municipality in terms of lighting and in all those issues of municipal competence will continue to be fulfilled.”

“The next step will be to improve the lighting of the Costa Teguise maritime avenue, from the pier to La Mareta, for which we have requested financing from the Government of the Canary Islands for a project valued at 800,000 euros, drafted by municipal technicians and issued to the Tourist Infrastructure area”, he added.

“We will continue working on the busiest streets of Costa Teguise and on the accesses to shops, schools, the institute, the medical office and hotels”, said the head of Roads and Works, Eugenio Robayna, who is coordinating the installation of the streetlights on Las Palmeras, Islas Canarias, Del Mar, El Jablillo, El Golf, and Piteras streets, among others.
