The general secretary of the Socialist Party of Gran Canaria, Sebastián Franquis, intends to propose Luis Ibarra as the new president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas. This was reported by the also Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands to the Island Executive Commission of the party that took place this Tuesday in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Franquis highlighted his "confidence in the management capacity and solvency" of the current vice president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria. The proposal must be assumed by the Canarian Government for its appointment and, in turn, ratified by the Government of Spain. Ibarra would repeat as president of the Port Authority that he already directed between 2011 and 2018 and which is now headed by former mayor Juan José Cardona (PP).

Franquis assures, in a statement made public this Tuesday after the Executive meeting, that his proposal is due to the fact that he considers that Ibarra's profile "is the one needed to lead" one of the main engines of the Canarian economy. "His proven experience in the port sector and his professional career position him as the ideal candidate to face the current situation of falling port activity in almost all its indicators," adds the island general secretary of the socialists.
