The work of installing the new traffic lights on the streets of Titerroy began this Tuesday, after multiple complaints from residents, who blamed this problem for the various traffic accidents that have occurred in the neighborhood. The works will be completed next week, according to the Councilor for Traffic, Ángela Hernández.
The residents of Titerroy had raised several complaints about the poor signage in the neighborhood after the completion of the works of the State Local Investment Fund (Plan E 2009), as well as the delay in the installation of the traffic lights that regulate traffic in the neighborhood. The councilor has explained that the works have been delayed, since "we could not do anything until they handed over the work to us".
The mayor of Arrecife, Cándido Reguera, and Ángela Hernández herself, as well as several municipal technicians, supervised the works this Tuesday. These works represent an investment by the council of 30,000 euros, destined to the "acquisition of the new traffic lights and the installation of the same", Hernández points out. The maximum execution period of the works is 45 days, although according to the Consistory "they could be completed next week".
Without traffic lights
After the suppression of the traffic regulation devices, this area of the capital has been "without traffic lights with the consequent problems in traffic regulation and the complaint of the residents for the insecurity of these streets", according to the Arrecife City Council in a press release.
For Hernández, the suppression of these traffic lights, although
uncomfortable, was a necessity for the normal development of the works of the
Plan E, which has meant"the adaptation of several streets in the neighborhood that
were in very bad condition". In addition, "the capital Consistory has also awarded the works for the installation of lampposts and traffic light columns owned by this City Council at several intersections in the Titerroy neighborhood, so that the work would be done in unison and as soon as possible", emphasizes the traffic councilor.
