The Government of Spain has eliminated from its security forecasts the construction of the Civil Guard barracks in Playa Blanca, "being satisfied" with the expansion of the current headquarters. This was stated by the PP senator, Loly Lurzardo, who asked about the plans that the Ministry of Interior had with respect to this infrastructure, which was included in the 2009 budget.

Luzardo recalled in a statement that in the State accounts there was a projection for 2011 of 360,000 euros that, in her opinion, "the Government has no intention of investing". "The Executive has made it very clear that the construction of a new barracks in the municipality of Yaiza is not contemplated in the current Multi-year Investment Plan in Civil Guard Infrastructure, nor in the Special Investment Plan in Security Infrastructure of the Ministry of Interior".

On several occasions, the Yaiza City Council has proposed the exchange of the current barracks for a plot in Playa Blanca, but the Government presided over by José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero has rejected this proposal, considering it more convenient to carry out an expansion of the existing facility, according to Luzardo.

Luzardo has regretted that the Ministry of Interior has abandoned the idea of building Civil Guard facilities in Playa Blanca, "ignoring the demand of local administrations and without taking into account the volume of population registered in the town, due to its residential and tourist character". For Luzardo "it is a pity that the Government renounces to execute investments in security matters when they are even foreseen in the budgets".
