The Governing Council of the Cabildo has approved this Tuesday the file and authorization of the expense for the contracting of the "Ordinary Conservation Service of the Island Road Network", considering as such, both the roads owned by the Island Council and the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, whose conservation and exploitation has been transferred to this Corporation.

The president of the Cabildo, M.ª Dolores Corujo, explains that "with a budget of 4 million euros, from the Corporation's own funds, this new contract will not only allow us to maintain the island's roads in good safety conditions, but will also be an important incentive for the creation of employment on our island in these difficult times we are experiencing."

In this sense, as detailed in the Technical Specifications, a total of 21 workers will be hired, of which 11 will be special laborers, 6 first officers, 1 administrative assistant, 1 manager and a conservation manager.

For his part, the vice-president and councilor of the Area of Public Works, Planning and Projects, Jacobo Medina, points out that "after the public bidding process that will be carried out soon, the company that is awarded will take charge of this service, so essential for the improvement of our island roads, until 2022 and extendable for another two years."

With respect to the actions to be carried out by the awarded company, those of an immediate nature stand out, that is, those that are requested by the competent authority (Civil Guard, Local Police, Security and Emergency Consortium) and that require immediate action to solve a serious security problem. In this case, the team must appear at the place of the incident indicated, within a maximum period of 90 minutes.

In addition, it will also attend to urgent actions aimed at solving road problems that do not require immediate action and that must be resolved during the working day, the day after their communication. And, finally, the scheduled actions, which are those works of conservation and maintenance in order to ensure the conditions of road safety and security corresponding to each of the sections of the different island roads, public lighting and traffic light network.
