The Governing Council held this Tuesday approved the appointment of the new manager of Lanzarote Health Services, Román García Zerpa, who also assumes the position of manager of the General Hospital of Lanzarote, as established by the Organization and Operation Regulations of the Canary Health Service (SCS).
The director of the Lanzarote Health Area, María José Costa, has been part of the group of professionals who proposed Dr. García Zerpa for the position and has stated that she feels "very happy" that he has accepted the proposal. Costa defines the new Hospital manager as a "very close and hardworking" person as well as a "great professional with whom to form a great team".
Román García Zerpa, born in Costa Teguise, in Lanzarote, has a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of La Laguna, and his academic training includes a master's degree in Management and Organization of Hospitals and Health Services from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), and a special license in Public Health from the Free University of Brussels. He is also a University Specialist in Health Area Management from the UPV.
Currently, the new position of the Ministry of Health was developing his professional activity in Lanzarote as a doctor with a position at the Arrecife I Health Center. He has been medical director of Primary Care of the Lanzarote Health Area, director of the Arrecife I Basic Health Zone and interim doctor of the Playa Honda Local Clinic, the Teguise Health Center, and the Normal Emergency Service of Arrecife.
He has also worked as a Health technician of the SCS for the elaboration of the Canary Islands Health Plan, and as a Health technician responsible for the Health Cooperation Programs of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The position in command of the Management of the General Hospital of Lanzarote is thus filled after Pedro Moreno Ramis resigned as manager last week, as soon as he learned of the dismissal of Juan Manuel Sosa as director of the Lanzarote Health Area, who proposed Pedro Moreno for the position two years ago.
