While the 'murgas' fine-tune the way to express social complaints and the attack against politicians, the die is cast for the days they must go on stage at the fairgrounds, within the framework of the competition of the next carnival.
Los Inadaptados, Inadaptadas e Intoxicadas will do it on February 20, Los Gorfiones, Arretrancos, Leidis Golosinas and Tabletuos, on February 21 and Los Intoxicados, Desahuciados, Soplones and Las Shorbys y Punto close the first phase on February 22. The six finalist 'murgas' will face each other on Friday, February 24.
Carnival program
The Arrecife carnival begins on February 18 with the reading of the proclamation in the Parque Islas Canarias by the 'murga' Re-la-mi-do. The following day, at 5:00 p.m., will be the exhibition of children's 'murgas', at the fairgrounds, with performances by the clown "Peter" and the singer "Niko", Euro Júnior finalist.
After the three days of the 'murgas' competition, on the 23rd, at 7:00 p.m., the gala for the election of the queen of the third age is scheduled, with the performance of the 'murga' Amigos de la Tercera Edad de Altavista. That same day and on the same stage, at 9:00 p.m., viewers will be able to appreciate the exhibition of 'comparsas'. Friday, February 24 will be the final of the 'murgas' competition, with the performance of the 'afilarmonica' Las Revoltosas and the 'murga' Los Singuangos from Tenerife.
Election of the queen and much more
The great artistic gala and election of the queen of the 2006 carnival will be on Saturday the 25th, at the fairgrounds, with the performance of the award-winning 'murgas' and the singer David Civera. On Sunday, at 5:00 p.m., will take place the children's party and election of the children's queen of the 2006 carnival. In addition, the costume contest will be held at the children's party.
At 9:00 p.m. the drag queen election is scheduled, with performances by Boney M and Supremas de Móstoles, also at the fairgrounds. The streets of the capital will host on Monday 27 the great parade of floats. The starting point, at 5:00 p.m., is the Ciudad Deportiva and then the displacement along the Vía Medular until reaching the Cabildo area. The 28th will be the exhibition of 'batucadas', at 9:30 p.m., at the fairgrounds and, if the body can handle it, Wednesday, March 1 will be the burial of the sardine.
The parade will start at the Escuela de Pesca and end in the park in front of the Cabildo, with the burning of fireworks.
