The Extraordinary Assembly of the Lanzarote Water Consortium approved this Tuesday to include fishermen's associations in the subsidy of 150,000 euros granted to Canal Gestión Lanzarote "to reduce the price of water for the primary sector and thus promote agriculture, livestock and fishing on the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa."
The President of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, explained that this measure "is the response to a commitment with which we want to publicly recognize the work they do and, at the same time, continue to join efforts to protect and recover our primary sector."
The bases of these subsidies establish that the price of the cubic meter in those attached to the agrarian regime will go from 0.98 to 0.50 euros per cubic meter, and that in those not attached to the regime it will be set at 0.80 euros per cubic meter. For their part, the Fishermen's Associations, Federations and Cooperatives of the Sea will be applied a reduction of 0.48 euros per cubic meter in the consumption of water destined for fishing extractive activity and its commercialization.
The presentation of applications may be made from January 10, 2022 to March 31, 2022 (both inclusive), before the Registry of Entry of the Area of Agriculture and Livestock of the Excmo. Cabildo de Lanzarote. You can also make this request electronically at the electronic headquarters of the Cabildo.
The regulatory bases will be published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas "in the coming days".
Distribution of almost 258,000 euros from the Canary Islands Government
In addition, the Assembly of the Consortium has also approved the distribution of the subsidy received from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Water to reduce the extra cost of desalination and the extraction of water from wells and galleries for agricultural irrigation to the primary sector in Lanzarote and La Graciosa for a total amount of 257,978 euros.
The President of the Cabildo and the Water Consortium, María Dolores Corujo, thanked "the sensitivity of the Government of the Canary Islands with the primary sector of both islands", and pointed out that these aids constitute "a new stimulus and support for the work we are doing to reduce operating costs on farmers and, at the same time, achieve a more efficient management of water for agricultural irrigation."
The amount of the subsidy has been calculated based on the data sent by the Water Consortium of Lanzarote, which must pass it on to the cost of water to the beneficiaries, either by direct payment depending on the water consumed, or by applying a discount on their rate.
This subsidy is complementary to the other one approved this Tuesday, by which the Consortium subsidizes the water bill to the primary sector of the island. In practice, both aids will mean a saving of more than 90% in the water bill to users.
