The Arrecife City Council has walled up another occupied house in the capital. In this case, the property is located on Rubicón Street, in the central neighborhood of La Destila.

This property, which was also in a state of unsanitary conditions, was under surveillance by the Arrecife Local Police due to calls and complaints from neighborhood residents alerting them to situations of intimidation towards them by people occupying this house.

On the morning of this Saturday, a situation of violence towards the neighbors was recorded again - whose videos were shared on social networks. At night, the Local Police activated a control and security device in the area. In parallel, operators from the Department of Public Works of the Arrecife City Council, under the direct direction of Mayor Yonathan de León, proceeded to wall up the doors and windows of this house. During the work at night, the operators were assisted by agents of the Citizen Security and Intervention Unit (USCI) of the Arrecife Local Police Corps.

The City Council has required the owner of this property to proceed urgently, given the situation verified by the Local Police, to reinforce the complete closure of the various accesses (doors and windows) that this old house has with blocks.

In recent weeks, the mayor of Arrecife has acted to wall up several houses in different areas of Arrecife that presented security problems for passers-by and neighbors. Among these walled-up properties, some are located on Fajardo and Cienfuegos streets (in the city center), Peru, Brasilia (both in the La Vega neighborhood), and now on Rubicón road, in the La Destila neighborhood. In all cases, inspections by the Local Police warned of the insecurity of the buildings and their probable consequences for the residents of the surroundings.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has stated on repeated occasions that "we must stop the occupations that generate insecurity in the citizenry."

From the Consistory they remember that the city offers a shelter where people who require it can spend the night.
