The Minister of Economy, Knowledge and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, Elena Máñez, has announced a new line of aid, endowed with 30 million euros, for those workers in a temporary employment regulation file (ERTE) who are going through a situation of greater vulnerability and currently receive a benefit below the interprofessional minimum wage (SMI).

This was announced by the Minister after a meeting with the general secretary of UGT Canarias, Manuel Navarro, and the general secretary of CCOO Canarias, Inocencio González, in the first of a series of working meetings that, after the recent meeting held with the president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, will serve to define the bases of this call "from dialogue, agreement and consensus."

The Minister explained that these 30 million will be used to help primarily people in ERTE "more vulnerable" and recalled that this was a commitment of the Reactiva Canarias Plan and with it compliance with an agreement agreed with the most representative trade union organizations is given.

After this first meeting, we are already collaborating with the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), whose role in intermediation "is fundamental when it comes to accrediting the information necessary to process the aid", according to the Government.

"With the definition of these bases we will complete the social cushion of aid, on the one hand to the most affected SMEs and self-employed and on the other to the workers in an ERTE who are in a more vulnerable situation", added the Minister.

For his part, the general secretary of UGT Canarias, Manuel Navarro, was pleased that the request made by the unions to the Government of the Canary Islands just 15 days ago "has had its effect" and called to start working now to set the criteria of the bases and ensure that "these people, almost immediately, can access the aid."

Also from CCOO, according to the regional Executive in a statement, the agreement reached this Monday was valued as "very satisfactory", since in the opinion of its general secretary, Inocencio González, "we understood that it was fair that this measure had to be implemented already in our autonomous community."

González stated that the criterion of greater vulnerability is a "perfectly shared" criterion and opted to adjust the conditions of the bases "so that not a euro of those 30 million is left over."
