The Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Canary Islands Government, through the General Directorate of Water, has advanced in recent weeks different improvement works in the sanitation system of the municipality of Tinajo.

According to the regional minister responsible for the area, José Antonio Valbuena, the efforts are currently focused on expanding the pipelines from the population center to the La Santa Wastewater Treatment Plant. "This project has a total budget of 529,109.01 euros, of which nearly 30% has been executed", Valbuena added.

The project, awarded to the company VVO Construcciones y Proyectos, S.A. includes, among other actions, the execution of a tertiary network under the sidewalk to collect domestic connections from existing plots, the placement of collector sections, the installation of pipes and wells, the placement of new manhole covers and the enabling of new pumping facilities in the WWTP.

"All these actions will expand the scope of action of the treatment plant and will improve, in general, the island's sanitation network and the integral water management system in Lanzarote", said the general director of Water of the regional Executive, Víctor Navarro

Different shifts have been established to compensate for delays

Navarro stated that the works have been developed "complying with the necessary and required security measures" due to the state of alarm situation, derived from the Covid-19 health crisis.

In addition, it is stated that "although the work deadlines had been affected by this exceptional circumstance, these delays have been compensated by establishing different shifts according to the action protocol implemented by the company and coordinated with the General Directorate".
