The Cabildo of Lanzarote approved in the plenary session held this Tuesday the allocation of a total of 110,000 euros as "Protection and development of fishery resources", through nominated subsidies that will go to the four Fishermen's Associations of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, as well as the Organization of Tuna and Fresh Fish Producers of Lanzarote, Optuna 42.
Specifically, the Fishermen's Associations of La Tiñosa, Playa Blanca, La Graciosa and San Ginés will each receive a total of 20,000 euros, while Optuna 42 will receive the amount of 30,000 euros, corresponding to the years 2020 and 2021.
These financial aids aim to maintain the social and economic fabric of the fishing sector by helping with the operating expenses of associations, organizations and entities that perform representative, productive and development functions of the aforementioned productive sector.
The president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, expressed in this regard the "absolute and determined commitment" that the government group maintains with the island's fishing sector. "Not only is it part of our identity, but it contributes to the necessary productive diversification, the maintenance of jobs, a very important social function, and the conservation of this economic activity essential for the island,” she said.
"Continuing with the policy followed in previous years, we will continue to support the sector and we are going to pay the total amount of the subsidies. What we intend with the granting of these nominated aids is to contribute to providing these entities with the necessary equipment to carry out the important functions they perform, and to cover part of the expenses generated by the services they provide,” said the Councilor for Fisheries, Ángel Vaquez.
Both the president of the Cabildo and the Councilor for Fisheries stressed that “thanks to clear and transparent management, the commitment acquired by this government group to pay the total amount of the subsidies destined to the fishermen's associations, corresponding to the two years of 2020 and 2021, is fulfilled.”
Likewise, the president also announced that “soon another of the commitments acquired in the Primary Sector Board will be fulfilled, which is the bonus for water for the fishing sector.”
