The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, has announced that next Friday the Cabildo will approve in plenary the Budget for the year 2021, which amounts to 183,796,860.26 euros.
“It is extremely important to approve this budget in time to be able to execute it and thus respond to the needs of the citizens. Lanzarote cannot stand another fictitious budget. When we arrived at the government, in June 2018, we found some extended budgets, a habitual tonic of the previous government during its ten years of mandate, with the serious damages that this has meant for the island and the whole of the citizenship”, emphasizes Dolores Corujo.
The president has lamented that, during the past decade, the government of CC presided over by Pedro San Ginés, was "incapable of approving, in time and form, the budgets of the Corporation".
“What the current Government group is not going to do is paint fictitious items, which are repeated budget after budget, but which are not executed later. Here, with public money, there are not and will not be star projects without foundation, nor occurrences nor payments of personal favors so typical and characteristic of the stage of CC and Pedro San Ginés”, he pointed out. "Our priority has been to approve the budget on time, since this means being able to execute it. Lanzarote cannot stand another fictitious budget”, he added.
The president wanted to value the "great effort" that the Corporation has made to approve the 2021 budget at the beginning of this year, despite the difficulties involved in the pandemic situation we are experiencing. “Without a doubt, the priority during these last months has been to attend, in the first instance, to the needs of the citizens derived from the pandemic, but the current Government group has always been very aware that the elaboration and approval of the budgets is fundamental, since it is an essential tool when guaranteeing the provision of services by the institution and for the execution of the planned investments, indispensable to support the economic recovery and to favor, as far as possible, the creation of employment”, he indicated.
"Realistic and very social" budgets
With the approval of the accounts, the Cabildo will be the first public institution in Lanzarote to approve the budget. "We are in a position to face the year with solvency and without the burden that working with extended budgets means for public management, a habitual practice of the CC government”, says Dolores Corujo.
"The budgets of the Cabildo of Lanzarote for this year 2021 are marked by the pandemic situation we are going through, so they are realistic and very social budgets. In these budgets, despite the loss of tax revenues, the resources available have been increased, both for public investment and for spending on services to citizens, through different lines of subsidies. We have achieved this thanks to the suspension of the fiscal rules of compliance with budgetary stability, the debt limit and the spending rule for 2020 and 2021”, concluded the island president.
