The Cabildo of Lanzarote has reported that it has sent to the City Council of the capital, for its approval, the collaboration agreement that will allow it to start the project 'Arrecife, Capital of the Biosphere' to which about three million euros will be allocated, co-financed via FDCAN.

From the first institution they recall that, in December 2016, within a Council of the Biosphere Reserve, the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the City Council of Arrecife, through their highest public representatives, expressed the commitment of both institutions to carry out the necessary interventions included in the project 'Arrecife, Capital of the Biosphere'. A diagnosis drafted by the prestigious architect and urban planner Juan Palop, commissioned by the Biosphere Reserve of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, to design "the type of city of the future, friendly to people, that the capital of Lanzarote requires".

"As a result of this base project, the Cabildo of Lanzarote and its Biosphere Reserve have continued working to make this change that the city needs possible, also having sufficient financial resources to undertake different actions and projects necessary to turn Arrecife into the capital of the Biosphere", they point out from the Cabildo.

"As we committed ourselves within said Council, for this important project for Arrecife, where 40% of the island's population is concentrated, about three million euros will be allocated, co-financed via FDCAN, but in order to start the diagnosis of certain degraded areas or zones of the neighborhoods, susceptible to intervention by the Cabildo, as well as the drafting of preliminary drafts of the actions to be carried out and the plan of functional needs, it is necessary that the City Council of Arrecife also maintains its commitment to cooperation with the Cabildo and signs and approves as soon as possible the collaboration agreement that was sent to it a few days ago and for which we are waiting to be able to start contracting the services described therein", said the president of the first institution, Pedro San Ginés.

San Ginés hopes that Arrecife "will agree to receive this new aid"

From the Cabildo they point out that the collaboration agreement was sent to the City Council almost a year ago from the Biosphere Reserve for its revision. Subsequently, once completed with the contributions of the City Council, it was again sent "via written communication from the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, to the mayoress Eva de Anta, dated and registered as outgoing this past Monday, February 12, requesting its approval in the bodies that correspond to it, so that the Cabildo can develop and implement the project".

"It only remains for the City Council, which has the last word on urban planning in the capital, to agree to receive this new aid and collaboration from the Cabildo, approving this agreement that does not entail any added cost for the City Council and that will only have to facilitate the coordination and technical availability necessary to prioritize the requests for inter-administrative cooperation necessary for the proper development of the projects to be executed", points out the president of the Cabildo.

From the institution it is recalled that, through this city project, a new model is proposed that allows bringing the neighborhoods closer to the center, creating our communications infrastructures and mobility models, also rehabilitating some degraded areas, among other projects initially proposed in the initial analysis document drafted by Palop.
