Meeting to discuss Transportation in the taxi sector

The Cabildo of Lanzarote works together with the municipalities to improve the taxi sector. Through the Department of Transportation, coordinated by Domingo Cejas, reported this Thursday at the Mayors' Table of Haría, the work being carried out to "improve the public transport service" in the hand of the different municipalities of the island, specifically, regarding the taxi sector in the seven municipalities.

"We are working towards a model that improves the quality of service, both to satisfy the demand of the resident and to improve the service and image of the tourist who visits us," said the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, at the meeting held with the six mayors of the different municipalities.

In this sense, the island's Transport Councilor, Domingo Cejas, explained that the area he directs "will propose the creation of a table in which all the Transport managers of each municipality are present, together with technicians from the Cabildo, to try to find the appropriate formula to further improve the system".

Island waste collection management

Likewise, the Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Waste Area, committed to study the request of the municipalities of San Bartolomé, Tinajo and Haría regarding the garbage collection at the island level, a question that was supported by the rest of the municipal councilors, so that with the updating and revision of the studies carried out, "new island collections" of waste are proposed, "as long as, from them, could derive better technical, environmental and economic results."

"We will proceed to modify the current contract to meet the demand for separate collection of light packaging waste, paper cardboard and glass packaging, the main service provided by this Cabildo, and which are then treated at the 'Zonzamas Environmental Center', for which we will increase more assigned personnel and new collection vehicles," Cejas detailed, "which will provide a better environmental result and increase the amounts of waste collected," he added.

In turn, the councilor stressed that, recently, the Cabildo prepared and presented to all of these entities a "technical economic proposal" aimed at the island collection of biowaste. All this within the framework of the current regulations in the matter, from which obligations linked to new separate collections of waste fractions of local competence derive, which must be established to facilitate the preparation for reuse and high-quality recycling.
