The Councilor for Social Welfare and Inclusion of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Marci Acuña, visited this Friday the facilities of the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer's Patients (AFA Lanzarote) to learn firsthand about the work carried out by this non-profit entity and the scope of the social projects promoted with the financing of the Cabildo.
During his visit, the councilor highlighted the joint work that has been carried out with AFA, framed in the social agreement of the Personal Autonomy Promotion Service. "AFA is one of the entities with which we maintain one of the three social agreements that we have launched on the island. Thanks to this agreement, 100 places are managed aimed at supporting the permanence of dependent people in their homes, favoring the family environment as a space for care and attention," Acuña stressed.
Likewise, the councilor valued the project "Safe Home Permanence", an initiative developed during the last year in collaboration with AFA Lanzarote, and which has had a financing of 150,000 euros from the Cabildo. "This project allows homes of people with dependency to be equipped with technical aids such as articulated beds, wheelchairs or cranes, which substantially improve the quality of care in the family environment," he explained.
The project is designed for a direct impact on more than 280 dependent people on the island and has currently reached 200 homes in different municipalities. Families interested in accessing these aids can still request them through their respective town halls or directly at the headquarters of AFA Lanzarote, located in Arrecife.
This action is part of the Island Strategy for Accessibility and Inclusion, promoted by the Cabildo of Lanzarote to consolidate a model of community, personalized and person-centered care.
For her part, the psychologist of the association, Daniela Gopar, reported that 160 technical aids have already been provided, with articulated beds being the most demanded resource. "These equipments are essential to guarantee the well-being of users, improve the quality of life of their caregivers and prevent frequent complications such as pressure ulcers," she said.
AFA Lanzarote is an entity with more than 25 years of experience that has established itself as an island reference in the socio-health field, developing home help programs, active aging and support for family members and caregivers. "We continue working to make Lanzarote the island of care, which listens and puts people at the center of public policies," said Councilor Marci Acuña.
