The regional Government has tendered the regular flight service to connect La Rioja and the Canary Islands during the summer with a minimum of 26 frequencies and 6,760 seats for each of the two years of the contract's duration, which will be extendable for two more.

The Riojan Government has informed in a statement of the start of this tender, which seeks to improve the connectivity of the region with one of the main sun and beach destinations in Spain, as well as also allowing the arrival of Canary tourists to La Rioja.

Besides the Canary Islands, the Logroño-Agoncillo airport will launch an air connection starting next March 27 with Barcelona, and with another 80 national and international destinations through the El Prat terminal.

This service is added to the new air route with Palma de Mallorca planned for this summer and to the expansion of the daily link with Madrid, both routes pending final award.

In the case of the Canary Islands, the bidding document establishes that this new air route must connect Logroño-Agoncillo airport with one of the main terminals of the archipelago, to be chosen by the bidders from among Gran Canaria; Tenerife North-City of La Laguna; Tenerife South; Lanzarote-César Manrique Airport; and La Palma.

Likewise, the network of destinations that the airline offers from the chosen airport with single ticket service, check-in to final destination and connection protection to any of the other four main airports, as well as to those of Fuerteventura, El Hierro and La Gomera, will be valued.

The operations will be carried out for an effective period of four months, comprised between June and September. During this period, a minimum of 52 round-trip operations must be offered, and a minimum capacity per flight of 130 seats.

The contract, which has been tendered for an amount of 538,450 euros, includes the carrying out of sponsorship actions to increase the positioning, notoriety and recognition of the tourist brand La Rioja in the Canary Islands market, through advertising media and promotional actions.
