The Cabildo of Lanzarote keeps open these days the period for the application of the discount on the water rate bill applicable to consumers in the primary sector in Lanzarote and La Graciosa "who request it and comply with the requirements established in the bases." For this, the Island Corporation has allocated an amount of 150,000 euros.

The Water Consortium is also carrying out an advertising campaign in the media these days "to spread the initiative among potential beneficiaries".

From the Cabildo they note that, in a novel way, and as agreed a few weeks ago in the General Assembly of the Consortium where the seven municipalities are represented, "this discount also now reaches the fishermen's associations".

They detail from the Corporation that it is a nominated subsidy to the concessionaire of the integral water cycle to reduce the price to pay by applying a discount corresponding to the year 2021. “Farmers, in addition to the fishermen's associations, have until March 31 to take advantage of this annual bonus line,” recalls the president, María Dolores Corujo.

“It is one more measure of those that we develop with the objective of reducing the cost of water for those who work to strengthen the primary sector in Lanzarote and La Graciosa in very complicated moments,” says the island official.

For his part, the Minister of Water, Andrés Stinga, has clarified that the Consortium's subsidy to the bill "is different from the aid processed a few months ago by the Entity, then delivering an amount of 257,978 euros to farmers, and that responded to a previous support from the Regional Ministry of Agriculture". “For the discount on invoices, we enable our own funds in order to achieve a significant reduction in the cost per cubic meter for consumers in the primary sector and fishermen's associations,” clarifies Stinga.

Discount and applications

From the Cabildo they point out that for users attached to the agricultural regime, the discount means that they would go "from paying 0.98 euros to paying 0.50 cubic meters of water"; while those not attached to the agricultural regime in their meters, "would go from 1.12 euros to 0.80".

Fishermen's associations, federations and cooperatives of the sea will be applied "a reduction of 0.48 euros per cubic meter in water consumption destined for fishing extractive activity and its commercialization", they add.

The presentation of applications, as well as the documents to be provided in accordance with what is indicated in the bases, is made before the Entry Registry of the Area of Agriculture and Livestock of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, located in the Agricultural Farm of Tahiche. This request can also be made electronically through the electronic headquarters of the Island Corporation.
