The Social Welfare Area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has already held the first valuation committees to grant social emergency aid, as specified in the regulatory bases of these financial benefits aimed at people in vulnerable situations.
“The first commissions that we have carried out have yielded a balance of 60 applications attended for a total amount of 113,912.94 euros to guarantee the social protection of these people”, says the Minister of Social Welfare, Isabel Martín.
The Cabildo has allocated "initially" an amount of 245,000 euros, both from the Assistance Fund and the Technical Assistance for Social Emergency, but has already advanced that this amount "will be increased due to the current demand”.
Regarding the applications processed so far, the vast majority have been derived from the Arrecife City Council, with a total of 29 applications, while another 13 were derived by the San Bartolomé City Council; 8 from Tías and 5 from Teguise. The rest of the applications came from the rest of the island's town councils, 2 from Haría; 2 from Tinajo and one from Yaiza.
The Cabildo recalls that these aids, whose maximum amount will be 3,000 euros per family unit of coexistence, can be requested throughout this year 2021. Applicants must go, in the first instance, to the Social Services of their respective town councils, to later be referred to the Cabildo.
The social benefits granted by the Cabildo will cover not only basic needs such as accommodation, food, transport or medical treatments, but also necessary works in homes, acquisition of orthopedics, prostheses or prescription glasses, as well as attention to training, among other needs.
