The Cabildo of Lanzarote reveals one more example of the terrible economic management by the previous government group led by Dolores Corujo, which has resulted in the definitive loss of 14,459,379.73 euros in subsidies and agreements that were not executed in time and formThis sum, which the institution has been forced to reintegrate to other administrations mostly between the 2023 and 2024 fiscal years, implies the loss of strategic projects in matters as sensitive as the integral water cycle, care for the dependent, job creation, and the improvement of road infrastructureIn this regard, it should be noted that while the main opposition party, the PSOE, issues alarmist statements regarding the retention of 2% by the Court of Accounts, it is necessary to clarify that this in no way implies a refund of money. It is a purely administrative procedure that, once the entity verifies the viability of the accounts issued by the Corporation, will be rendered ineffective. Furthermore, this situation already occurred in 2021, under the presidency of the socialist María Dolores Corujo. The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has described this situation as an "attack against the general interest of the citizens of Lanzarote and La Graciosa". "It is unacceptable that the island has had to return more than 14 million euros simply due to the inability to manage the files," he added. For her part, the vice-president and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Tovar, underlined the negative impact that these reimbursements have "on the solvency and planning of the general budget". Tovar explained that these massive refunds, which include employment projects such as "Lanzarote Sostenible IV" or ecological transition plans that added up to hundreds of thousands of euros in reimbursements, "represent a burden inherited from non-existent management".
Other amounts reimbursed are related to files intended for the industrial regeneration of Altavista II or for energy efficiency had to be closed with the total refund of funds due to pure political inaction by the PSOE.
On the other hand, in the socio-sanitary field, the report details the reimbursement of 4.57 million euros corresponding to the 2019 annuity of the Socio-Sanitary Infrastructure Agreement, to which more than 800,000 euros from the 2021 Dependency agreement are added. The water sector has also suffered a hard blow with the full refund of 1.62 million euros intended for hydraulic infrastructures of 2019 that never materialized.
Likewise, the road network has lost more than 3.2 million euros from the 2020 annuity, in addition to specific allocations for sustainable mobility such as the cycle lanes in Puerto del Carmen or sections of the Insular Cycling Route that were forgotten
