One of the most read newspapers in the United Kingdom, the Daily Mail has published an article about the transformation of Lanzarote in recent months due to abundant rains.

“When imagining a volcanic landscape, you’re likely to picture an ashen scene, grey rubble and rocky terrain,” begins the text from the Daily Mail

The newspaper highlights that Lanzarote, is "known for its black lava fields, red craters and a Mars-like atmosphere most of the time".

But the abundant rains of winter have made the island turn a “vibrant green” and of “purple and yellow wildflowers”.

The London newspaper underlines that “tourists and residents head to the fields between Yaiza and Puerto Calero to take photos, have picnics and enjoy family walks; many bring their dogs to walk in the fields”.

The Daily Mail collects the testimony of the travel agent based in Lanzarote, David Gainford: "It's not something you see here often. Nobody wants to come on holiday and have it rain, right? But the Canary Islands have had their share of rain this 2026, and we are competing to see which island is the greenest".

“Here in Lanzarote we not only have grass, but also these beautiful wildflowers. Let me show you a different Lanzarote,” Gainford continues in his video.

The British travel agent highlights that "the green grass and flowers of Lanzarote have gone viral on social media, the views are absolutely spectacular, stretching for miles and miles, climbing mountains that are normally volcanic".
