As agreed in the latest coordination meetings, held in past months due to the closure of international airspace by the ash cloud from the Icelandic volcano, the Department of Tourism of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has convened this morning the Crisis Cabinet formed, among others, by technicians from the Department of Transport of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the management of Aena, Asolan, Aetur, the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote, the Insular Directorate of the General Administration of the State, councilors from the different City Councils, the Society for Foreign Promotion and the Tourist Board, and also representatives from the different tour operators, travel agencies, companies and other sectors.

The main objective of this meeting was to identify and locate the risks that the general strike scheduled for this Wednesday, September 29, may cause to tourists who are on the island.

According to reports from the Cabildo, this Cabinet "has established an action protocol to be carried out, in the event of any incident, to proceed with diligence, coordination and caution in the face of the possible interruption of some services on the island".

For its part, Aena has provided attendees with a schedule of "protected" operations and flights after the minimum services agreement, as well as the forecast of international flights, which, pending the final response from handling workers, do not suffer any alteration.

Among other actions, both the association of tourist accommodation establishments on the island, Asolan, as well as Aetur, the tour operators themselves and travel agencies will be in permanent contact with the Insular Directorate of the General Administration of the State to transfer any information or incident that may occur during the day this Wednesday, as well as with the airport management and the Department of Tourism of the Cabildo of Lanzarote to keep tourists who are on the island informed at all times about changes that may affect their travel and flights.

Public transport

On the other hand, the Department of Transport of the Cabildo of Lanzarote informs that minimum services for intercity public transport have been decreed, in the event that the strike is mainly supported by this sector and they have to be activated.

The rest of the public services, such as health or security and emergencies, would work with minimum emergency services in shifts, as is done on holidays, as in the Zonzamas Environmental Complex.
