The Cabildo of Lanzarote has completed the improvement works in energy efficiency in the facilities of the Minors Center of the municipality of Tinajo.
According to the Councilor for Energy and Industry, Ariagona González, the objective is "to obtain a building that is more respectful with the environment, where the energy dependence on fossil fuel is minimized and in this way we undertake the change in the energy model that we want on our island." "If we add to this the well-being of the users of the center, we feel doubly satisfied because we promote in them an education in respect for the environment", she said.
According to the Cabildo, the infrastructure of the Minors Center had "obsolete facilities, in addition to not having energy saving and efficiency systems, for which a self-consumption system was incorporated." "This system will result in energy savings through the use of renewable energy sources such as the generation of photovoltaic electrical energy," explained the Councilor for Energy and Industry.
The energy efficiency and renewable energy project also involves the installation of domestic hot water, with the incorporation of new solar thermal panels. In addition, the interior and exterior lighting was renovated with the incorporation of low-consumption LED luminaires, the low-voltage network was adapted and conditioned, as well as the building envelope, where doors and windows were changed and the roof insulation was improved, thus improving the comfort of the residents. The work has cost 169,060 euros without IGIC and has been carried out with the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN).
"We are in an ideal place, the Canary Islands, to carry out this type of work and start consuming responsibly through renewable energies and banish conventional energies," concluded Ariagona González
