The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, and the councilor of Human Resources, Internal Regime and Housing, Rosa Mary Callero, met this Wednesday with representatives of the seven municipalities of the island to share the available resources and the housing needs of all of them.
As announced by the Cabildo, the data collected in the meeting will be sent "urgently" to the Ministry of Development, to transfer "the urgent need for public housing in Lanzarote", but will also serve so that Cabildo and municipalities "can give coordinated solutions in their respective areas, in addition to sharing technical, real estate and human resources, in such a way that this serves as a basis for the future Island Housing Institute, whose creation has been entrusted by the Island Government Council to the councilor".

"There are solutions that have to arrive immediately," said María Dolores Corujo. "Solutions that involve giving access to housing to those at risk of exclusion, but also to face the daily needs of families who see their vital project compromised by the absence of affordable housing."
According to the president of the Cabildo, this lack of housing is also a serious problem for the development of the island. "Teaching or health professionals reject destinations in Lanzarote due to the extreme difficulties in finding affordable accommodation and the same happens to many companies that find it difficult to get certain professional profiles to cover their needs because they do not find an affordable way to reside on the island," he stressed.

Rosa Mary Callero thanked all the municipalities for their willingness to collaborate in this first meeting. "In terms of housing, Lanzarote behaves almost like a common space. The short distances of our island allow us to reside in one municipality while working in another, so the housing problem extends throughout the territory. It is a common problem to which we must also give a common response, municipalities and Cabildo," she concluded.
