The Cabildo of Lanzarote awarded on September 20 the completion of the works on the bike lane, which should have been completed in April. The project will be completed by Hormigones Insulares S.L., (Horinsa), which was awarded the contract after presenting "the most advantageous offer". The company will have a budget of 73,905 euros to undertake the pending works, such as vertical and horizontal signage or tree pits, as well as the paving of the road.
These works, which should already be finished, were interrupted on countless occasions due to the problems that the then contractor, Torrescl, S.L., was going through. Finally, and after several ultimatums from the Cabildo, the Department of Transport agreed to terminate the contract with this company on June 20.
Once resolved, the units of work pending execution were assessed and it was decided to add to them the repaving of the road that runs between the interchange and the Gran Hotel, given the state of the pavement and the existence of a surplus charged to the initial project.
The Minister of Transport, Joaquín Caraballo, "hopes that this project can finally be completed within the planned deadlines", adding also that "for the resurfacing and signage works, it has been agreed with the company to carry out the work at times that least disturb the residents of Arrecife, who have already suffered enough inconvenience with the delay of the works".
Schedule of works and road closures
To undertake these works, on Friday from 7:00 a.m. Fred Olsen Avenue will be closed, in the section between the roundabout near the bus interchange and the intersection with Guenia Street. In addition, on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. there will be another closure on Avenida Mancomunidad, from the intersection with Guenia Street to the Gran Hotel roundabout.
On Sunday, the road that runs between the roundabout in front of the bus interchange and the Gran Hotel roundabout will be closed, from 7:00 a.m. In addition to the road closure, parking of vehicles will not be allowed during those days.
