The members of the Council concentrated this Tuesday on the voting for this year's Tourism awards, which will be presented on September 27, World Tourism Day, at the Tinajo socio-cultural center.

Thus, the councilor of the Board, Miguel Ángel Leal, announced that the first award, the First Prize Isla de Lanzarote, has been granted to the Hotel Fariones of Puerto del Carmen, for a well-deserved promotional work of the Island by its director Bienvenido Saavedra and an entire team of professionals.

Tourism Distinguished Award

"As Tourism Distinguished Award winners, the Teguise market, the School of Tourism and the airline Air Europa have been awarded," he said at the end of the session.

Finally, the Tourism Board has granted special mentions to the deceased Rafael Hernández Álvarez, who was a member of the Board, as well as to Heraclio Niz, better known as "Pollo de Arrecife".

On the other hand, there is still no date for the launch of the Foundation for the Tourist Promotion of Lanzarote, but those responsible for the Board predict good harmony with the employers' associations.

"The draft of the statutes has already been delivered and we are waiting for proposals (...) If the tourism employers do not collaborate with the Foundation, it makes no sense. The Cabildo can put money, but the businessmen have to put money," remarked Miguel Ángel Leal, head of the Tourism Board.
