Podemos Lanzarote concluded this Thursday morning the citizen consultation carried out with its members to ratify the stability and governance agreement in the Cabildo of Lanzarote with the PSOE. The result has been very broad, with more than 88% of the members leaning towards yes.

The Secretary of Organization of Podemos Canarias, César Merino, wanted to thank the participation in the telematic vote. “We are witnessing the continuous growth of the four circles of the island, which are the engine of this new course that begins today in Lanzarote.”

In the same way, Merino offered “all his support and collaboration” to the team that will be part of the island government, putting at their service “all the technical resources and government experience that Podemos Canarias already accumulates in numerous institutions of the archipelago.”

Podemos celebrates the "important areas" of management

From the purple formation they emphasize that in the agreement reached with the socialist party, Podemos will be in charge of the management of “three packages of areas that structure the political program of the formation since its foundation”.

On the one hand, they will have the responsibility of the areas of Housing, Employment and Open Government, which will fall to the councilor Jorge Peñas, a lawyer specializing in real estate issues and who was the legal advisor of the Platform for Decent Housing of Lanzarote.

Myriam Barros, the group's spokesperson in the Cabildo and founder of Las Kellys, will manage the areas of Equality, Youth and Education, which also includes the fight against gender violence and the promotion of diversity policies.

The party also celebrates the "great incorporation" of Elena Solís, a renowned environmental jurist and specialist in European law, as new non-elected councilor for the Environment, Landscape, Food Sovereignty and Animal Welfare. Solís, who joins as an independent, is "the great purple bet" to give voice to social groups that “drive political decisions of significant importance” such as environmental policy.

From Podemos they point out that this governance agreement occurred after "the unnatural pact between the PSOE and the PP came to an end in the City Council of Arrecife and the Cabildo of Lanzarote". After this, they add that "the offer of agreement from the President of the Cabildo to the purple councilors" arrived, who transferred the negotiation to the heart of the party.

It was the island assembly of Podemos Lanzarote, formed by all the members of the island's circles, who decided that the most appropriate formula "was to be part of the island government managing areas of relevance". With this mandate and some far-reaching political lines, the negotiating commission managed to "close an agreement with the PSOE that is now endorsed by the purple membership".
