The Arrecife City Council has given the green light in its plenary session this Monday, September 28, to the initial approval of the Regulations of the Municipal Council of Cultural Heritage. This initiative, promoted by the mayor, Ástrid Pérez, had already been favorably decided by the Information Commission last Wednesday, with the presence of all the political forces present in the Municipal Corporation. In this Monday's plenary session, the government group and CC issued their votes supporting these regulations, while the representatives of the Lanzarote en Pie- Sí Podemos group abstained.
As explained by the Consistory, this new agreement has given the green light to the initial approval for the modification of the Regulations of the Municipal Council of Cultural Heritage of Arrecife, which was published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas on June 12, 2017, and which "until now had not been updated to the Canary Islands Cultural Heritage Law, in force since April of last year 2019".
As the mayor announced in the plenary session, new needs have arisen and the same must be modified, in compliance with the provisions of the Law. The text of the new regulations will ensure the conservation, protection and enhancement of historical heritage, which is now called Cultural Heritage because it is a more current meaning, in line with the Government's action "to value all the existing heritage in the municipality of Arrecife."
A Council with an "eminently technical" profile
In response to questions from the opposition, Ástrid Pérez stressed that, according to article 5 of the new regulations, experts in each subject can be consulted for the issuance of the opinions of this Municipal Council of Cultural Heritage.
According to the City Council, the configuration of the Municipal Council of Cultural Heritage of Arrecife will have "an eminently technical profile" and will fulfill the purpose of "providing advice to the local Administration."
After this approval in the plenary session, it will be exposed to the public for a minimum period of 30 business days through announcements in the Official Gazette of the Province and in the bulletin board of the City Council, so that interested parties can examine the file and formulate claims and suggestions.
