The Arrecife City Council is the second Canary Island Council with the highest transparency of the 27 municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants, according to data from the report of the Commissioner for Transparency and Access to Public Information of the Canary Islands. The institution of the capital of Lanzarote is less than one point from the first, that of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, while Arrecife is followed in the ranking by Los Realejos and San Cristóbal de La Laguna, in third and fourth position.

It is worth remembering that the main objective of the transparency portal is to make information relating to the City Council available to all residents of the municipality, in an accessible way with the purpose that each citizen can form a solid opinion on the management of public affairs.

In the opinion of the mayor, Eva de Anta, this news is "a demonstration of compliance by the City Council regarding active advertising in the Canary Islands public administrations." For her part, the Councilor for New Technologies, Jimena Álvarez, added that "the Transparency Portal was created from the first moment with the aim of providing citizens with information on the management of the Arrecife City Council, actions and improving good governance, the quality of its services and municipal efficiency." "We are very satisfied with this result and will continue working along these lines," added Álvarez.

To know if they comply with their obligations of the legal mandate of transparency

The Transparency Index of the Canary Islands (ITCanarias) reveals, according to the Transparency Commissioner, "those institutions that best comply with their active advertising obligations as well as those that ignore the legal mandate of transparency, essential in any democratic society." To calculate the indices, three components have been taken into account: the assessment of the web questionnaire, the responses in Excel tables and the verification that the services themselves have carried out on the transparency portals.

The Commissioner for Transparency and Access to Public Information of the Canary Islands is a body created by the Transparency Law of the Canary Islands dedicated to the promotion, analysis, control and protection of transparency and the right of access to public information in the Canary Islands.

The administrations and other entities included in the scope of application of the law have the duty to provide the Commissioner with all the information requested, as well as the obligation to provide the necessary collaboration for the development of their functions.
