The second phase of the public tender called for the granting of "handling" licenses in 16 Spanish airports began at the end of 2005. A total of 143 offers have been submitted, in which twelve companies or groups of companies will be present. Of these offers, ten have been submitted for the Lanzarote airport.
Specifically, and in addition to Iberia, which has been maintaining labor disputes with the ground staff it currently has at the Guacimeta airport for months, Acciona Airport, Flightcare, Aldesa Construcciones together with Swiftair, Binter Canarias together with Altabacales, Eagle and Clece, Ferrovial together with Menzies and Swissport, and Globalia, in this case united with Servicios Portugueses de Handling and Islas Airways, are also competing in the tender.
Some offers have not been admitted because they were submitted after the admission deadline.
In the rest of the airports, including Lanzarote, there will continue to be two ground handling agents.
