The mayor of Teguise received the visit of the regional president, Fernando Clavijo, on the occasion of the celebration for the first time in Lanzarote of the Canary Islands Government Council, on a special day within the commemorative program of the 600 years of history of the Royal Villa de Teguise.
During the visit, Oswaldo Betancort requested the commitment of Fernando Clavijo to initiate the acquisition process of the Casa Palacio del Marqués, located in the Historic Center of the Villa de Teguise, with the intention of carrying out one of the "most ambitious" projects of the program of the 600 years of commemoration of the establishment of the Fuero de Niebla in Teguise: the museum habilitation of the property.
"The opening in the Villa de Teguise of a History Museum of Lanzarote is, without a doubt, the most relevant project that we want to materialize in this anniversary, by recovering a monument in itself such as the Palacio del Marqués, a milestone that would also mean having the most important historical museum in Lanzarote, since it would house the history of the Kingdom of the Canary Islands," declared the mayor.
"Priority" issues for Teguise
During the meeting with Clavijo, the mayor of Teguise raised various issues "of priority" for the municipality, such as the effect of the annulment of the PRUG for Teguise, or the definitive award of the remodeling work of the Paseo de Las Cucharas, which presumably, as the regional president announced, will be carried out at the beginning of February.
Next, the mayor and the Canarian president attended the inauguration of the Hotel Palacio Ico, a "unique" hotel infrastructure in Lanzarote, which has opened its doors in the Villa de Teguise as the first emblematic hotel on the island. "I would like to convey my sincere congratulations to the owners for this brave business commitment and for promoting a new category of tourism, and also contributing to the conservation of our most precious historical heritage," declared Betancort, who thanked the president of the Government of the Canary Islands and his entire team for their presence.
"The presence of the regional government today contributes to publicizing and highlighting what Teguise's objective is with this celebration, which is none other than to value the importance that this historical milestone has for Lanzarote and for the Canary Islands. Thank you very much for responding to the call of Teguise, its neighbors and its history, and the commitment of this government group to transmit cultural values to the rest of society that will last at least 600 more years," added the mayor.
La Graciosa and Chinijo Archipelago
For his part, the president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, congratulated Teguise and the entire Corporation "for the work of close and efficient management that they are carrying out in the municipality and for their commitment to recover the richness of its historical and cultural heritage." "This work is leading the municipality to unprecedented economic, employment, tourist and economic activity indicators throughout its 600-year history."
In relation to the topics discussed, Clavijo also cited the reference to the Chinijo Archipelago and La Graciosa, administratively dependent on Teguise, about which he pointed out that the regional government will do "everything possible to ensure that it remains a jewel" and added that the "rise and push of La Graciosa is unprecedented", so he agreed "to look for an element of transience".
