The Teguise City Council has defended itself after neighborhood complaints about the state of the Los Charcos Beach area. "It is not an abandoned beach," said councilor Eugenio Robayna, after a La Voz reader reported that the area is "forgotten" and "in the dark." The councilor responded to these criticisms by, among other things, blaming "friends of others" for the fact that the showers on this Costa Teguise beach do not work, which was one of the aspects reported.

"The showers were closed by the City Council, because if I show you the water bill for that area, you'll fall backwards, because friends of others also steal water," Robayna said on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, where he pointed to "squatters" in the area and "some caravaners" as the perpetrators.

"It's not that they go to the shower and take water, but they have looked for fixes in what is the pipe, halfway and we have had to cut it, because public money cannot be played with, it is our responsibility," added the councilor, revealing that it is not the only area where showers have had to be closed for this reason. "Also in the outside part of Las Cucharas it has had to be closed, because in the afternoon-night, when the beach guards are no longer there, they go and fill their bottles," he explained, even stating that "they have also taken the upper part of the showers" and that the City Council is trying to "find a solution."

In the case of some caravaners, he also pointed out that the City Council has even detected some "hooked up to public lighting." For this reason, he pointed out that "some bollards have already been placed in the area" of Los Charcos Beach. "Because there cannot be caravans parked there for entire weeks," he indicated.

Lighting and palm trees

Regarding the complaint about the lack of light in the area, the councilor defended that the public lighting was installed "two years ago," that "all the lighting was changed to LED, low consumption." However, he acknowledged that in the area of the breakwaters, "when there is waves, the differentials trip." "At some point you will have seen the lampposts turned off, but the City Council's lighting services are on the move," he assured in any case.

"And if you are going to tell me that it is on the part of the Hotel Las Salinas, where the promenade ends, which is behind the hotel, which connects Las Cucharas and Los Charcos, there is no lamppost. There is not even a promenade," he said, pointing out that "it is a demand that the mayor has with Costas."

Finally, he has also spoken with respect to the garden service. And it is that, another of the issues reported was that there were palm tree leaves that reached "the ground" on the disabled ramp. "The manager was on vacation this month, but throughout the morning this area will be decent," he assured early this Monday.
