The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, received the Minister of Health and Social Welfare of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Manuel Sosa, and his technical team to learn about the status of the project for the future Senior Citizens' Residence that will be located in the municipality of Teguise, following the transfer of 22,000 square meters of municipal land by the City Council.

According to Oswaldo Betancort, the residence project "is a priority for Teguise and its construction will be a great step for Lanzarote and for the families that need a home for their elders", for which he has thanked "the response of the Government of the Canary Islands and the agility of the Cabildo de Lanzarote when it comes to addressing our firm purpose of housing the future Senior Citizens' Residence in Teguise".

"Once the urban planning issue is resolved, since the land is currently undeveloped developable land, the Cabildo de Lanzarote has committed to contributing 5 million euros more to the project, which already had funding of 10 million from the regional government." This was announced in Teguise by the island's area councillor, Juan Manuel Sosa, pointing out that "the financial endowment is important, but more important is the commitment to keep that infrastructure standing and give continuity to the service".

At the meeting, which was also attended by the councillor for the area in Teguise, Nori Machín, technical issues were discussed regarding the development of what could be the City of Seniors, a socio-health space that integrates the entire community, with therapeutic swimming pools, sensory gardens and different types of housing, according to the needs and level of dependency of the elderly. In total, according to estimates by the Cabildo, 120 long-stay places, 20 day centre places and 10 family discharge places would be covered.

On the other hand, Oswaldo Betancort informed the Cabildo representative that "Teguise has land available to transfer a plot for official protection, which would presumably be located in La Villa de Teguise". Sosa, for his part, promised to pass this offer on to the Minister of the Government of the Canary Islands, "so that she can activate the necessary steps and funding to respond as soon as possible to a vital demand from the population".
