Users of the taxi service at Lanzarote airport formed a queue of more than 200 people yesterday between 1:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., thus testing the measure implemented by the Taxi Association aimed at optimizing the service in Guacimeta. José Melián, vice president of Autoturismo de Lanzarote, which groups taxi drivers from Yaiza, Tías, Tinajo, Teguise and Haría, assured that the queue was evacuated quickly thanks to the taxis that were arriving to drop off clients helped to solve the great demand this Thursday.
Some Arrecife cars were missing
Melián said that in the retention, which reinforces the taxi service of San Bartolomé, some cars from Arrecife were missing, however, the help of the professionals who were leaving passengers at the aerodrome was decisive. "The controller told them to go down to the arrivals area if they did not have pending services in their municipalities," he commented. "In this way, we took out the huge queue that was there in record time," he added.
The vice president of Autoturismo highlighted the understanding of the drivers of San Bartolomé and positively valued that the cars of the retention are called quickly when there are no taxis from San Bartolomé in the arrivals area. Likewise, he believes that yesterday's experience was very positive due to the immediate response of the taxis that were leaving clients in the departure area. "I think the passengers waited a maximum of 15 minutes," said Melián, although he thinks that complementary measures should be adopted to continue improving day by day.
New formulas
Autoturismo de Lanzarote will propose a meeting with the taxi drivers of San Bartolomé with the purpose of analyzing new solution formulas, however, José Melián believes that the concentration of flights one day a week (Thursday) makes it more difficult to solve the problem.
Taxi drivers' information campaign
The taxi drivers of Yaiza will meet next week with the directors of the hotels in Playa Blanca to communicate their intention to undertake an information campaign whose objective is to deliver to the tourists a small information sheet with the rates to the different points of the Island. This proposal will also be transferred to other municipalities such as Tías and Teguise.
"We also want to listen to the hotel managers to try to solve the problems that may exist with the provision of our service," Melián noted.
