Somos Lanzarote has presented a motion for the next Plenary Session of the Arrecife City Council in which they request the creation of a working table on the Supplementary General Plan for Urban Planning. The proposal that will be presented at the plenary session on the 26th requests the opening of a public debate and the promotion of a "participatory project" among the citizens of Arrecife.
"We have only held one meeting with Gesplan technicians, two months ago, and we have not heard anything about the intentions of the government group regarding the PGSOU since then. We do not understand the lack of information and the lack of transparency of the government group (PSOE-CC-PIL) in a matter as important as this, so we urge them to change their position through this working table," they argue.
Thus, the Somos party requests the creation of a working table where a representative of each political party with representation in the City Council participates, a representative of GESPLAN, technicians from the urban planning area of the Arrecife City Council, the urban planning councilor, representatives of neighborhood associations, neighborhood platforms, and other social actors from the municipality of Arrecife.
"We propose that in that working table with a representation of the existing plurality in the citizens of Arrecife, proposals are elaborated, arguments are contributed and conclusions are reached that structure and give shape to the Plan. We are gambling the future of our city and this deserves the greatest of our implications, especially in the search for the interest of the majority," they argue.
"Transparency, debate and participation"
In its motion, the organization asks that a debate be opened and that "a process be generated that incorporates the largest number of voices possible, defining the public interest and putting on the table those issues that are transversal to the city as a whole."
"The high number of allegations presented in the previous initial approval demonstrate that the urban planning of Arrecife is a far-reaching decision, so we believe that information about it should be promoted among residents, emphasizing those neighborhoods and areas of the municipality that, due to the number of allegations, the substantial modifications they undergo, or the needs of the same, deserve to have a much more specific space for information and neighborhood participation. We want to shed light on a process that should not be carried out in closed-door offices, but rather counting on the opinion of the majority and prioritizing the general interest," they assure.
