The Canarian Employment Service (SCE) is negotiating with the European Social Fund the investments to be received through the Comprehensive Operational Plan of the Canary Islands. Specifically, and as explained by the director of the SCE, Soledad Monzón, an increase has been requested in the item destined for people with difficulties in finding a job, such as young people, women, the long-term unemployed, the disabled and people at risk of social exclusion. The negotiation also includes funds for other areas such as business creation or career guidance.

On the other hand, the strategy to be developed in the coming years remains to be created. In this line, the SCE is holding conferences on all the islands, which this morning have moved to Lanzarote. The seminars, under the title 'Employment Strategy 2007-2013', deal with various topics. In today's case, labor intermediation was addressed, that is, "how the public employment service is intermediating in the labor market, whether we are being effective or not, whether supply and demand are being matched or whether the expectations of the business sector and the unemployed population are being met," said Soledad Monzón.

For the moment, the project was inaugurated last Friday with a conference on training for the unemployed and workers. From now on, the meetings that will host the different islands will address issues such as specific and priority groups, career guidance and insertion, the qualification system and the modernization of the public service to provide a higher quality of service to the unemployed and active.

To discuss these issues in the conferences participate, among others, universities, business confederations, unions, chambers of commerce, local development agents of municipalities and councils, PROMETEO managers or technicians of the Canarian Employment Service.
