The thirteen workers of the urban waste collection service of San Bartolomé have started this Monday an indefinite strike to protest "against the breach of the collective agreement." The measure, according to the general secretary of UGT Lanzarote, César Reyes, tries to "prevent the company in charge of the management of the service from delaying the negotiation of an agreement", which has been expired since December 2009.

César Reyes assures that Clusa's intention "is to involve the San Bartolomé City Council in the negotiation of the collective agreement" and for this "it does not hesitate to use the workers to improve the conditions of the contract it has with the Municipal Corporation".

From UGT they affirm that "the San Bartolomé City Council has no responsibility in this labor conflict because the Consistory is up to date with the payment of the canon of the urban waste collection service".

Therefore, the general secretary of UGT on the island holds Clusa responsible for a situation that, he assures, "is repeated in the municipalities of Teguise and Tinajo", where the management of this service is in the hands of the same company and where, he warns, "if there is no change in attitude, actions such as those initiated in San Bartolomé could be carried out".

In the same statement, Reyes apologizes to the citizens of San Bartolomé for the effects and inconveniences that the indefinite strike may cause in the urban waste collection service.
