The City Council of San Bartolomé demands that the Cabildo of Lanzarote accelerate the works started on Rubicón street to avoid "the possible closure of businesses" due to the decrease in sales of the affected establishments.
The works, paralyzed for three weeks, are seriously affecting the economic activity of the municipality, and this has been conveyed from the Ajei Association of Commerce and Businessmen of San Bartolomé to the government team in the meeting convened by the City Council to learn firsthand their demands and explain the procedure of this work under the competence of the first island institution.
This meeting included the intervention of the mayor Isidro Pérez; the Councilor for Commerce, Alma González, and the Councilor for Public Works and Services, Raúl de León, to offer the attendees all the information gathered in this regard.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, is forceful in his claim to the Lanzarote Cabildo because, "we cannot continue waiting while our merchants, neighbors, and residents pay the consequences of unjustifiable delays. We have done everything in our power to resolve this situation as soon as possible, but we still do not obtain a clear response from the Cabildo. It is unacceptable that the local business fabric continues to be harmed in this way."
For her part, the Councilor for Commerce, Alma González, has expressed her indignation and has reiterated the urgency of a solution. "We cannot allow the businesses on this road to continue suffering from the inaction of an administration that should be looking after the general interest. The delays in the work are suffocating local commerce and we perfectly understand the concern that the business fabric, small and medium-sized companies, convey to us."
From ACEA they confirm that "this work, now paralyzed and with no signs of continuing, is seriously affecting the survival of families, since the remodeling of this artery in the commercial area of the municipality has plummeted the turnover of businesses by more than 50%."
The City Council of San Bartolomé convened, at the request of the affected people, a meeting to address their doubts and gather the concerns of the commercial sector, with the aim of minimizing the inconveniences and seeking joint solutions.
The City Council of San Bartolomé "will continue to demand the prompt resolution of this problem and warns that, if no response is obtained, new actions will be undertaken to defend the interests of the commercial fabric of the municipality."
