The Cabildo of Lanzarote celebrates the granting of the Animal Welfare Award, awarded by the College of Veterinarians of Las Palmas, to Ruimán Duarte Tavío, head of the Animal Welfare area of the Cabildo. This recognition highlights his ten-year career dedicated to animal welfare and his ability to lead pioneering projects, such as the creation of the Island Office of Animal Welfare, the only one in the Canary Islands and an example of supramunicipal coordination to support municipalities in their responsibilities in this area.
The distinction, which places Duarte as a national reference in the field of animal welfare, recognizes the importance of his initiatives, including the implementation of ethical management of community cat colonies, in line with the recent State Animal Welfare Law, and the activation of pioneering assistance services, such as behavioral assessments and legal advice in animal law.
The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, emphasizes that "it is a pride to see how the efforts of our professionals, committed to a more ethical and respectful Lanzarote with animals, receive the recognition they deserve. Ruimán Duarte is an example of dedication and leadership in the public sphere, and thanks to his vision, Lanzarote is at the forefront of animal welfare in the Canary Islands and throughout Spain. This award is a well-deserved recognition and motivates us to continue working to become a benchmark in animal welfare policies."
For her part, the Minister of Animal Welfare, Aroa Revelo, states that "Ruimán's work goes beyond duty, and is based on a deep respect for animals and the firm conviction that we can improve their quality of life in Lanzarote. Thanks to his drive and the commitment of our team, we have achieved significant progress and are transforming the way we manage animal welfare."
