The Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Rita Martín, and the architect from Lanzarote, Carlos Morales, will sign the contract for the elaboration of the project of the Congress Center of the capital of the island next Monday, the 19th.
For the mayor of Arrecife, "with the signing of this document, a step forward is taken in the definitive construction of the Arrecife Congress Center." Reguera has lamented the recent statements made by the
PSOE regarding the possible diversion of money destined for this work and has pointed out
that "time has proven us right." "From the corporation that I preside over, we have not wasted a minute of time working to ensure that this work is so
necessary for Arrecife to become a reality as soon as possible," added the mayor.
According to the capital's first mayor, the project will be completed in seven or eight months and, subsequently, "all efforts will be made to award said work in the shortest possible time."
The winning proposal, "Fractal", by architect Carlos Morales, was chosen in the ideas competition organized by the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, "for its originality, adaptation to the program, budget, versatility, energy efficiency and ease of maintenance of the building."
The new building will provide the island and the archipelago in general with a new infrastructure for congress and convention tourism, as well as for holding various events. It will have an area of more than 15,000 square meters and will have several rooms for multiple uses. It will be located in front of the headquarters of the Island Council of Lanzarote. The works, budgeted at 30 million euros, could begin this year.
