The president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Mario Cabrera, believes that the best thing the oil multinational can do with the oil drilling off the coasts of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote is to "pack up now, weigh anchor and get out of the Canary Islands. They should leave before the courts and the European Commission kick them out."

Mario Cabrera understands that the 'fear' shown by the Undersecretary of State for Industry, Hernández Bento, that the European Commission may read the reports against the surveys in a timely manner "shows that he is not sure of himself. He tries to delay the action of Europe as much as possible because they are subject to the oil lobby, and now the latest thing is to ask for an extension to present the reports to the European Commission, when in theory, if we stick to what Soria and his supporters have been saying so far, all the reports were available to whoever asked for them."

Mario Cabrera believes that the concealment of the daily activity reports of the oil multinational; the hindrance to scientists being able to freely do their work in the drilling area; "are more than enough arguments for the Spanish Government to have already sanctioned Repsol, but as always they submit to those who really command them."

But now with the plummeting oil prices and the open investigation in the European Commission, "Repsol's project is already touched and sunk. Pack everything up, weigh anchor and leave to where they want you. We don't want to see them here again. We want 2015 to begin without the oil threat in our waters," he said.
