Coinciding with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Public Works area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has completed the transfer of the 7.5 million euros corresponding to the Island Accessibility Plan, an initiative that "seeks to guarantee equal access and the elimination of physical barriers in all the municipalities of the island."

This project, led by the Public Works area under the direction of Vice President Jacobo Medina, represents "a firm commitment to inclusion and the improvement of public infrastructures in the island territory."

Jacobo Medina highlighted the importance of this action as a milestone in the history of the Cabildo: “We are taking a decisive step towards a more inclusive and accessible Lanzarote. This plan not only responds to a historical need of our island, but also reaffirms our responsibility to guarantee an environment in which all people can enjoy spaces and services without limitations”

The Island Accessibility Plan, which is part of the Municipal Cooperation Plan, establishes an equitable distribution of funds among the seven municipalities of the island. Thus, the distribution has been made "based on the population of each territory to ensure that all councils have the necessary resources to address accessibility projects." Among the figures, Arrecife will receive an allocation of 2.7 million euros, followed by Teguise with 1.1 million, Tías with 992,921 euros; San Bartolomé with 890,645 euros; Yaiza with 836,269 euros; Tinajo with 406,162 euros and Haría with 348,523 euros.

Medina stressed that "this transfer is a sign of the coordinated work between the Cabildo and the town councils", consolidating a collaboration that has allowed "to raise the total investment of the Municipal Cooperation Plan to a record figure of 13.5 million euros". According to the vice president, “this represents the largest historical allocation from the Cabildo to the municipalities, demonstrating a clear commitment to strengthening local resources and meeting the demands of citizens.”

Within the framework of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Medina stressed the symbolic value of this action: “Accessibility is not just a matter of infrastructure; it is a matter of rights. With this plan we want to eliminate barriers and open paths for a more inclusive and equitable society”.
