The Department of Public Works of the Arrecife City Council has awarded this week the project to reorganize the accesses along Avenida de Los Geranios with the LZ-3, in the Maneje neighborhood.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, who is also the direct head of the Department of Public Works, had informed the residents this past summer that this project was among the objectives for this term, given the residential boom that will be recorded in Maneje in the coming months with the construction of 400 social housing units on land ceded by the City Council.

Currently, the first 201 homes are already being built through the Instituto Canario de la Vivienda (Canary Housing Institute), and soon Visocan will plan the construction of another 200 homes, also on plots of land ceded by the capital's City Council.

The mayor of Arrecife has highlighted that the Department of Public Works "is planning different municipal public works during this second part of the term to improve mobility, adapt accessibility, and provide the neighborhood with new green areas and children's leisure facilities and sports areas."

Yonathan de León met this past summer with residents of the Maneje neighborhood, living on Avenida de Los Geranios, where he shared several of the municipal actions planned for the area. Among these actions, now confirmed with the awarding of the project's drafting, the urban redevelopment and redesign of the roundabout on Avenida de Los Geranios with the LZ3, and the intersections of Guadalajara and Tinguafaya streets, stand out. It is well known that the road connecting the neighborhoods of Titerroy and Maneje crosses this roundabout, over the LZ, known as the Arrecife Ring Road.

The award decree, signed by the mayor, establishes that the technical project must plan "the comprehensive action that allows solving the fluidity of traffic, road safety and the quality of the urban environment, adapting the space to the current needs of mobility, sustainability and urban habitability."

In addition, this technical project, necessary for the upcoming awarding of the works, will detail improving the functionality, safety, and urban appearance of the space, in the reorganization of the road system, expanding the sidewalks to adapt them to current accessibility regulations, designing the installation of necessary urban infrastructures and the provision of trees, as well as the provision of street furniture.

Urban Modernization and Improved Mobility in Maneje

The modernization of this enclave, with a new geometric design, contemplating lighting and pedestrian accessibility, and the spatial quality of the urban environment, will incorporate the design of bus shelters, waste containers, and pedestrian crossings, taking into account that this area of action, within Avenida de Los Geranios, is integrated into one of the nerve centers for circulating, or transiting, in the Maneje neighborhood.

Yonathan de León has emphasized that this project "will be complementary to the resurfacing work on the streets of Maneje, which will be carried out in phases this winter, and which is currently out to tender for 1.2 million euros, within the phases of the resurfacing plans that the Municipal Government of Arrecife is implementing during this term."
